Sometimes Spontaneous Tattoos Are The Best Ones
I’m back in the wonderful tattoo world of hanntats and this one has transported me to a woodland fantasy just before the Sydney lockdown
Hannah drew a custom piece for me that was similar to one of her previous flash sheets. It was a cute froggy boy and a butterfly situated on top of a mushroom- a classic hanntats design and it was gonna look cool on my skin. I went for the calf, which is supposed to be less painful than bony areas like the knee. I think I’ve experienced the opposite. Lately, I’ve found fatty areas like the wrist and calves have been more painful for me than the collarbone or near the knee. When Hannah was tattooing the upper area of the design, the buzzing feeling of the machine near the knee seemed to provide relief rather than the calf muscle, which was jerking each time she would shade over a sensitive area.
As she placed a firm pressure on the calf and tattooed away, I decided to listen to repeats of My Dad Wrote A Porno and closed my eyes. I wouldn’t recommend listening to a comedy though. There were moments when I struggled to keep the laughter in and fidgeted a bit. But hearing people talking as if I was part of the conversation itself was a good distraction compared to just listening to music throughout a session.
Hannah wheeled over to me just as my phone buzzed with a text from Mum and informed me we had finished! I think I’m getting old, I’ve got less pain tolerance and I’m able to sleep through a tattoo. But I absolutely love my froggy boy and he needs a name!
My next session will probably be a touch-up of all three designs, but with how creative and original hanntats has been, I know I will be tempted by another one of her flash sheets again!
